An
LC-130H Hercules from the New York ANG's 109th Air Wing leaves a remote,
polar "out-camp" with the help of Thiokol's redesigned Assisted
Take-Off Rocket Motor (Mk6 Mod 3). Through state-of-the-art propulsion
technology, the new motor delivers 75 percent more thrust, withstands
temperatures to -65 degrees F, and provides increased safety and reliability
for the aircraft and aircrews operating under these extreme conditions.
Artist's Note: The caption reflects the 2001 timeframe. The viewpoint for this painting was obtained using an old Airfix 1/72nd scale C-130 plastic model. After choosing a viewpoint and digitally painting several roughs to work out the painting's composition, the model was photographed using a Nikon 950 digital camera. Painted in Photoshop 6.0, the finished image consisted of 48 layers. Hardware was an Apple Power Macintosh Dual G4/500 and a Wacom Intuos Graphics Tablet.
